Restaurants in Hammersmith
A guide to Hammersmith and restaurants around Hammersmith
Hammersmith - W6

130 years ago this area was largely rural, until, in the late 1800s, the opening of the Hammersmith underground train station. The borough population massively increased and by the end of the 19th Century had grown as a whole from 10,000 to 250,000 people.
Despite having its own distinctive character, Hammersmith was merged together with Fulham and Shepherd's Bush to form one council borough in 1965. Click here to see a map of Hammersmith.
Today, 100 years later, the population stands at approximately 157,000. This population is diverse, with large Irish, Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Polish communities. Of course, a diverse population makes for diverse range of restaurant cuisine and this where we come in on our gastronomic Hammersmith tour.

First stop on our travels is Hammersmith Bridge, the mid-point for the Oxford and Cambridge boat race. The area is known more for its great riverside pubs than restaurants. Look out for The Dove, The Blue Anchor, The Rutland and The Old Ship, all of which serve good pub grub, but do get very busy at the weekends.
Next up is King Street, the main shopping street, which stretches from the Hammersmith Broadway centre to Chiswick. It's impossible to list all the restaurants located on this street here, but our favourites are; Akash Tandoori, Yoshi Sushi, the great caff The Ritz Restaurant and the lunchtime favourite (within the Lyric Theatre), Café Brera. With the new opening of a Holiday Inn hotel on King Street a few months ago, it's no surprise that even more restaurants have sprung-up in the area. So why not investigate the brand new Chula, Noodles and Magic and the revamped Hampshire gastro pub?
Finally, no trip to Hammersmith would be complete without a look-in at the legendary River Café.
