In an age where we are told that the new "National Dish" is now curry and there are more American burger outlets than you can shake a Ronald McDonald at, we at LondonEats.com have re-examined that old but now declining institution, the humble Fish and Chip shop.

Fish and Chips, the slogans will tell you, is "The Great British Invention" and "The Original Fast Food", so we scoured London in search of the best Chippies around.

We are not talking expensive Seafood restaurants nor the pizza/kebab/chips multi-food takeaways. No, we are talking about the genuine paper wrapped, wooden chip fork, warm bottles of Vimto and ketchup in a big plastic tomato variety. Where the chips are golden brown, the cod succulent and the peas mushy and very green.
