Overall a 6, but that's harsh given what it SHOULD be compared with. Yes - it's is cheap (compared to pret/eat/waitrose) Yes - the staff are robotic (the opposite of JLP) BUT - value for money and speed/convenience 'Bene Bene' is top notch. Don't go in there expecting haute cuisine or the best sandwich you've ever had. However, if you want hot, good value, food on the go then this place is top. (plus the choice is awesome...) We're not all investment bankers in Canary Wharf! This fits the bill for many of us - hence why the 3 outlets in the wharf (that I know of) are always busy 1st thing and @ lunch. |

This is an excellent family run business that produces ,quite simply ,sensational food.My personal favourite is the corriander prawns but it seems somehow wrong to pick out any one dish when family and friends all have their individual favourites. I strongly suggest you try the house white. ask for a little jug of cassis for the kier lovers amongst you. Finally Eddie is one of the most attentive front of house persons ever |

Check you bill. Went with a friend after hearing this was a good restaurant. The food was tasty, although pretty salty and quite a bit overpriced. The place feels nice and quite fancy, but the service isn't nice or fancy. Both courses were taken away while I was still chewing. When the bill came we were overcharged by £16. This was hard to establish as there is no proper breakdown in Bar Shu, just a set of numbers scribbled down on pieces of paper and stapled together. For a restaurant whose staff wear microphone headsets this low-fi approach to billing seems a bit out of place. After questioning the charge, another piece of paper was brought for £10 less, but we received no explanation. The waiter simply brought it and walked off. After a very difficult conversation trying to establish why there was still £6 too much, we managed to extract from him that it surprisingly included a service charge! Getting the figure without the service charge meant another long wait, after which the waiter became impatient and rude: the card reader was snatched out of my hand after I'd entered the pin, and he wandered off with the reader and my card in it, while we waited. My card and final receipt were handed over to another waiter to bring to me. Nobody explained why we were overcharged and nobody apologised. |

This unit has recently gone massively upmarket to become "Brasserie Vacherin". My ratings above relate to this new establishment. It boasts a famous chef and offers very serious food. It is proving popular with locals, who clearly know a good thing when they see it. Hopefully it will soon have its own entry on the website - meanwhile it can of course be googled. (020) 8722 0180 |

This restauant has been recently taken over by a really great, serious French establishment called Brasserie Vacherin. See separate review |

I had the fish soup which was so fantastic I will have it next time as a main course, I had rib eye steak for main and it was just cooked to perfection. I was so full I could not eat desert. My girlfriend however was not that impressed with the one scallop on her mixed fish grill and did not enjoy the swordfish either but she did enjoy the bonoffee pie for desert and there was a nice touch from the waitress who gave us a complimentary shot. We will be going back there again. |
