lived locally for years and have meant to visit this restaurant as i had heard good things and finally did last saturday as my friend booked her birthday dinner there.

i chose the special of the evening for my starter, home made tagliolini with black winter truffle, divine and for main fritto misto deep fried seafood as i felt in a picking mood.

shared a dessert, chocolate fondant......what girl doesn't like chocolate? and we had birthday cake...blood orange and mascarpone with our coffee which the restaurant had prepared....complete with candles and staff singing happy birthday...

really enjoyed it and don't KNOW why i hadn't been to this treat years before!!!!

A short walk from the Notting Hill Gate station and several cool pubs, we had heard good things about this restaurant. We were greeted within a few seconds of arrival and once our reservation had been confirmed our coats were taken and we were shown to our table.

Sitting comfortably at our table we were impressed by the selection of music; Van Morrison might not be everyones cup of tea but it suited mine and Pips tastes perfectly. We had to wait a while before our order was taken, not a big deal though as we weren't in a hurry and we had some bread and olive oil to keep us going.

Our wine was served to us shortly after ordering, a nicely chilled Chilean chardonnay, we also had a bottle of still water. Our starters arrived within good time as well and although served in a minimalist style, the liver crostini tasted great.

Once the starters had been cleared there was a short pause before the mains arrived, Pips steak was as big as the plate and was 'medium well done' as requested. My lamb arrived at the same time and although carefully prepared, looked less impressive to look at in comparison. Thankfully the lamb tasted delicious; as did the steak, too much for Pip so I got to have some.

All in all the Ark was a great evening out; a pleasant, relaxed restaurant with superb food and wine. We didn't have dessert but we did have coffee to finish. The only complaint that was made during the whole evening was that the spinach was too salty; this wasn't a problem for me but Pip didn't like it. Our bill came to £88 including the 12.5% service charge. A fee we didn't mind paying as the service had been superb. I would have given the food a higher rating but I marked it down as a result of the salty spinach - a shame as I had no problems with anything else...

...especially not the steak.
