LondonEats.com Review:
Winner of the 2000 Moet & Chandon London Restaurant Award for the best British Restaurant and now the 2001 winner for Best London Restaurant as well. Menu examples include oysters or Welsh rarebit at the bar or whole crab , duck or faggots for mains. There is usually only one main vegetarian main dish to choose from.
The décor combines a high ceilinged bar area, a bakery and a white-painted expanse to be truly unique.
Expect to pay £35 for a 3 course meal, with house wine costing £11 - this restaurant just moves into our ExpensiveEats category.

ken Hall Tuesday, February 24, 2004 | Rating: Wow, where to begin. I attended this restaurant with a very close friend of mine who is a trainee chef at Leiths & this was to be a recon mission pure and simple. The best part of the whole experience was that it was, or at least felt extremely elegant while being extremely relaxed. My food was served promptly but with just enough time in between courses for conversation and the odd ciggie. The service was fantastic & as mentioned before friendly but very proffesional. Everything about this experience will be logged in the memory banks of fine times. So take your friens, take your parents hell take anyone it really is that kind of place. 1748 |
Monday, September 15, 2003 | Rating: After Anthony Bourdain's claim that this is his favourite restaurant in London, we were really looking forward to eating here and have to say we were so disappointed... It turned out to be a totally average experience. The non-existant ambience together with harsh glaring lights and indifferent, at times surly staff didn't help. The food was nice but that's all it was - certainly not outstanding... my partner started with the marrow bone salad while I opted for the crab meat on toast, followed by middlewhite and prunes - which to be honest looked and tasted like something Bernard Mathews might have produced, while I had the brace of soles in vermouth, all dishes were cooked well enough, but to be honest it was just so average... On leaving the restaurant we marked it on the following out of ten: ambience 2, service 3 and food 5... not fanastic... 1261 |
Cassandra Tuesday, June 17, 2003 | Rating: Very happy to have a meal that is tasty, interesting, nutritious and out of the ordinary. The food was presented and prepared extremely well and surpassed expectations. I had the Ox heart with fresh beets and beetroot greens for main, preceeded by the bone marrow and parsley salad. Absolutely delicious! Even the bread was gorgeous. The wine recommendation was superb. The Eccles cakes are fantastic! I would go back again tonight! 1098 |
