LondonEats.com Review:
Run by father and daughter Alvaro and Marietta Maccioni, who are present in the restaurant most of the evenings. There is a garden with 110 seats and eating meals there makes you feel that you are dining in Italy. Every customer who has a reservation has a right to choose their table on arrival according to the booking. Dishes include: Pappa al Pomodoro (Famous Tuscan bread soup, garlic, basil, parmesan and fresh tomato served hot or cold), Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Chianina organic beef T-bone steak cooked over charcoal served rare ), Pappardelle al Cinghiale (home made pasta hand cut with wild boar sauce).Payment

Victoria Bryce Thursday, May 06, 2010 | Rating: This is the first time ever I bother to rate a restaurant. The experience at La Famiglia was so bad, that I just feel the urge to tell. We went there on May bank holiday for a family lunch. Although we arrived before the crowd (there was only one couple there before us), we were offered the worst table in the restaurant, right opposite the entrance. As this was very drafty, we asked if they had another table. The answer of the "Head of Seating" was, "No, not for three". Later other groups of three arrived and even without reservation were offered other tables. This happened right before our eyes. This Seating Master turned out to be our waiter. While taking our orders, he all of a sudden turned his back on us, rushed to the door and placed arriving guests, leaving us in the middle of the sentence. He did this twice, without even a word of excuse. I haven't experienced anything like this before, nowhere in the world. After my husband and I had ordered, he wanted to run away again, although we had not ordered anything for our child yet, and when I dared to ask what they offered for children as there was no children's menu and the dishes were not suitable for small children, he literally snatched the menu from my hands, hastily telling me two dishes and looking really annoyed. At this point we should have left the restaurant, our good spirits were gone, but we did not want to go and find another restaurant at that time of day. So we waited for the starter to come and it came very quickly. Too quickly, as did the main course. My rocket salad with parmesan was a tiny portion with 4 little pieces of Parmesan for 8.50. The "dressing" consisted basically of very acidy vinegar. My husband's carpaccio was totally tasteless and seemed to have been prepared days time ago. We had ordered wine by the glass, a "Chianti" was offered and brought. It tasted lousy and was the cheapest stuff you can find. It is really not difficult to find drinkable and affordable wines in Italy and in a restaurant of this price category you really wonder why they insult their customer's tastebuds with such a bad wine. The main courses: my fish was OK, but nothing to write home about. The sauce for my husband's meat tasted like the stuff they serve in factory canteens from 10-liter buckets. We did not take the risk of a pudding, but asked for the bill. The toddler's portion of Penne Bolognese was charged with 10 pounds. We go out a lot and have been to restaurants all over Europe, but this visit to La Famiglia stands out as one of the worst, if not THE worst. The positive Reviews on this site seem to be from friends and family, no wonder thy come under codenames. I wish I had read the negative ones earlier. If you don't care how the food tastes or how unfriendly the waiter is, but want to show off your Hermes-handbag or your Moncler-Jacket, by all means, go there. But if you want to have a nice meal, even the big chains are a far better choice. 7585 |
Frank Heaps Sunday, May 18, 2008 | Rating: La Famiglia is small and the tables are very close together and seating very cramped.Service is quick almost too quick.Food is unremarkable, starters were basic but o.k. my main course of Veal was tough and stringy and my companions main of Wild Boar was very tough and very fatty and was sent back to the kitchen where the chef agreed and so the dish was taken off the bill, nothing was said about my Veal so we decided to leave and find another restaurant. We shall not return to this restaurant. By the way a further point to note is that you are not given a choice of tables when you book as I tried to book a certain table and was told No. 6044 |

Thea Wilson Tuesday, October 18, 2005 | Rating: This is an expensive restaurant although it does not look like it as the environment is extremely basic. The food is authentic Italian and good enough to draw the affluent locals despite the mediocre value. I would recommend it only for people who do not mind other people's children noisily disrupting the atmosphere. It is a cramped restaurant with tables far too close together. We were squeezed uncomfortably between two large groups , both with several children who could not sit properly at table and who played with a variety of toys and rattles, constantly leaving their seats and squeezing past the table. It was most unrelaxing. When we asked to be moved. we had to accept a horrid table by the kitchens as we were in the middle of eating and had no choice. We left as soon as possible. This was at a price which would comfortably have paid for lunch at the Caprice! We went for Sunday lunch - beware! I know one expects children at Sunday lunch but it would help if they could be taught to sit at table! The ambience was more akin to that of a kindergarten.3708 |

Top food, top atmosphere. I saw that bloke that used to present RI:SE (Judith Chalmer's kid), now come on that's got to be an incentive. Will be going back soon...definitely. 1195 |
