LondonEats.com Review:

Renowned for the 'best Steak Frites this side of Paris' - fish and vegetarian dishes are similarly 'par excellence'. The starters are also great, but olives, nuts and crusty bread are provided as appetisers. The décor is modern and attractive. The service is charming. The accent is on Red wine here (presuming you have Steak). Expect to pay £25-30 per person for dinner and wine.

This excuse for a quality restaurant was disgraceful. The waiters (poor souls) tried very hard their best to please but the food, place, and quality, in fact everything was absolutely awful.
We were sat in an overcrowded restaurant with people standing about aimlessly waiting for a table. The place was like a ships galley. …Constant flow of people making their way through. The restaurant was cold and the windows had bacterial residue along the edges.

The starters arrived within moments (were they prepared for someone else, who saw sense and cancelled). My Camembert was not even melted through…and the onion soup was like dish water.

The red wine was cold and the water was warm. Hmmmm.

Then the mains arrived. Very deeply disappointed. All the food had too much salt. The flavours were totally overpowered. The waygu steak was overcooked, rubbery and tiny….the sides were cold and lacked any flavour, the mushrooms tasted like tinned. I could go on and on….please don’t ever waste any time going to this awful place.

I have never had a better experience. I dine out nearly every night in London and find it very difficult to find a venue to entertain my guests. I have found the perfect one!!! The new general manager is the perfect host (Barry) and his staff are excellent, to the extent of being PERFECT. I will def, return!!!! The wine list is fantascic and the food is Grrrreat. Meal for four 145.00, worth every penny and much more...

My daughter and I visisted Chez Gerard last December. I was hoping to visit the restaurant but was promptly thwarted by the head-waiter, I don't think I was posh enough. He told us that we could get food in the bar area. We were ignored by the waiter until my daughter went up to the bar to get some drinks and say we wanted to order some food. He eventually came to take our order, I chose a chicken, bacon and cheese burger with fries, she hadn't made up her mind, so we asked if he could come back - we never saw him again! She had to go to the bar to order what she wanted - she chose Tarte Tartin. My meal came and I have to say that it was really excellant, it was around £10 and I thought worth it. We waited a very long time for the Tarte Tartin, so my daugher had to go and make enquiries and was told that it was made/cooked to order. It did arrive but without cutlery, which she had to once again go off and ask for. She said the tarte was really good - so we can't fault that - but the staff are not up to scratch! I noticed that they were really 'on the ball' with people who looked 'well off', but us lesser minions were treated with what I can only describe as disregard and even contempt. Its not to say that we were in the establishment looking like tramps, my daughter particularly, is a very smart young woman, but we were there in London for a particular reason, having travelled up from the South West, and were in more practicle attire. I would go to Chez Gerard's again, solely because the food we had was so good, but I don't relish the poor service, I've experienced a far superior level of service from places at the 'lower end' of the culinary spectrum, where the staff are pleasant, attentive and strive to make your dining experience a pleasure, as it should always be, and I feel, as a trained professional who has worked for many years in the hotel and catering industry, I do know what I'm talking about.

Go the Chez Gerard if you enjoy a buzzing atmosphere with plenty of people coming and going, the ambiance we felt (apart from the stroppy staff) was really pleasant and the food we had was reasonably priced and very enjoyable.

I went to Chez Gerard on reccomendation. The restaurant was buzzing although it was a monday evening. The staff, working at full stretch, were polite, courteous, and efficient. The food was presented and cooked well. The wine selection was average, but not overpriced. A second visit for one of our party who claimed service and quality similar to first. What more can one ask of a restaurant chain. Would I go back? Judging by todays experience. Yes.

Food was OK, to say the service was terrible is the understatement of the year, it seems that the staff know it's mainly one and only timers that visit because of the touristy location so they know they can treat you like dirt. Would I go back, even if it was free. Mais non.
