Bruno Wednesday, November 29, 2006 | Rating: Really rather rubbish ... arrogant venue, with the total lack of attention or appreciation of music which gives jazz a bad name ... the place exists for the bar takings and overpriced mush they serve up. Never let it be said this is a music venue. Shocker4893 |
Jennie Sunday, February 27, 2005 | Rating: Right - where to start! we booked months in advance for a table for 6. we got given a table suited only for four - at a stretch. After the initil complant (we will move you if another table becomes available - this is the top table dont you know - There was no offer of discounted one round of drinks or the such - this is all we can do.) anyway, food was rubbish: cold, bland - the chicken that had been described as something rather exotic was more like chicken kiev without the garlic - and more like a school dinner with hard and raw veg. then the "jazz" ended (more like 20 mins of 3 piece rubbish jazz band) and the disco moved in. we spent the rest of our meal with revellers next to us already finished eating and all over the place, also couldnt hear ourselves speak. due to the tight fitting of our table for 6 it was impossible to make space for people to get past our chairs, but seeing as we were a table of women, it was us that were told off rather than the man on the table behind us that also couldnt move his seat in. when a member of our table asked him to move also, he got offensive and hit them. THe bouncer chose not to see this and instead had a go at us when people were trying to get past. i tried to explain it to him but he dismissed me and kept saying "the music is too loud i cant hear you". i then kept asking for his name but he refused to give it. eventually he gave me the respect to come and speak to me againl, but when i asked how he had the nerve to give my friend evils and not ask the other table to move he said "i will let fly at you, come outside and i will take you". aside from being shocked at this, i said to him"so you would hit a woman. well come on then if you want to hit a woman" and he said that he would. this was prevented because the management finally moved us to another table. but only because they seemed to think that we were all a threat. aside from this we had snide looks and comments from other members of staff, and also the manager (or manager's son - we not sure which) was more interested in sitting with young women and buying them drinks than dealing with customers problems. at the end of the night, when we collected our coats i asked for the name of the bouncer that had threatened me - not only did i get no apology or response of a good nature, but they defended him. im sorry, but i freely admitted to them that i was rude to him after, but that didnt mean that he had a right to threaten me. they kept saying that i was being rude, but i felt that although i was being rude (necessary as they would not listen!) this did not give them the right to defend a member of their staff threatening a customer. i kept asking for their names etc so i couold report them, but they kept saying that i was being rude and cctv was recording me, i said bring it on because at least on the cctv others could see that they were too being rude! i finally got their badge numbers (after minutes of arguing and threatening action - because i have contacts to bouncer recruitmment - which they kept saying yeah right, just try it - well i will!!). they totally feel like they are unstoppable., they obviously think that they have such a well known name that they can get away with treating people like rubbish. well that stops here. I URGE YOU!!! DONT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!! (Aside from anything, it is expensive and small dancefloor and cold food!) . they treat you like rubbish and they think that they are some kind of hot shot people that are worth millions. well, i am sorry, but they are worth balls!!!!! 3129 |
Adam Monday, October 04, 2004 | Rating: This place has a split personality. When you arrive to eat, it appears to be a sophisticated London restaurant. Unfortunately, the food does not bear this out; our starters were not properly cooked, the main course vegetables were luke warm, and the overall taste was rather bland and mediocre. Drinks are expensive. After 10pm, any veneer of sophistication is stripped away and the venue becomes a hen-night haven. To further "enhance" the atmosphere, the dance floor is literally surrounded by black-clad security men. Ladies - do not even think of removing your shoes to dance, it is forbidden for "health and safety" reasons (even though glasses are banned from the dance floor)! Did nobody tell them that dancing in stillettos after a few drinks can also be a "health and safety" issue?! We wrote to complain about our experience; didn't receive a reply. Chased and got a brief and dismissive letter saying that they can't please everyone! We've been once - we won't be going back. 2666 |

James Monday, November 24, 2003 | Rating: All in all the food was Ok and the wine was good but you would expect that at the least. What really let it down was the floor management. we booked for 18 and thank God that only 13 attended as even with reduced numbers we were squeezed in like sardines. On top of this they split our table in two and decided to serve one half an hour before the other. I would also like to contest the description as a jazz bar. Small amount of quiet jazz during meal and then in came the revellers, off went the band and out came some sort of school disco CD. Some lovely ladies present but the large majority was made up of huge tables of rowdy men straight from the office or open shirted, hairy lounge lizards harrasing women on the way to the toilets. Food ok but clientelle, ambience and lack of space made for a very uncomfortable night1421 |
