Pie Man Friday, September 26, 2008 | Rating: I don't hold sway with the purists I'm afraid. I understand your perspective don't get me wrong, tradition is tradition, fair enough. But pies like many other culinary delights have to have good ingredients to begin with in order to be good. This I think is fairly obvious. Goddards may not be pure in the traditional sense, but they use good ingredients, and offer options for those who want them, vegetarians included.I place Goddards at the top of the pile personally. Manzes is definitely near the bottom for me. This gives you both ends of my pie spectrum. Manzes pies are like flat, tasteless lumps frankly. I don't know where they get the meat that goes in them, or what they do to it, but it ends up bland, soft...no, mushy and quite revolting. I took a friend there who is more interested in amounts of food than quality and even he said it was awful. Sorry Manzes fans. They just don't cut the mustard as far as I'm concerned. Goddards steak & kidney pie, with peas and gravy.....absolute HEAVEN!!. Hope my views offer an alternative perspective to the traditionalists. Thanks 6352 |
richard Sunday, November 12, 2006 | Rating: Sadly today was goddards last day, a very sad day for myself and my nephew who at 14 months old was only recently beginging to enjoy the experience of eating at goddards in greenwhich, stenny couldn't make it today so went with a friend, had to do a bit of que jumping but that was o.k. Enjoyed the pie and mash it was as good as ever. also managed to grab one of the blackbords from outside to go on my wall just to remind me of the times i have enjoyed in greenwich. will now have to eat in goddards deptford. good luck to every one in the greenwich shop i wish you the best.4850 |
john Wednesday, August 30, 2006 | Rating: lovely place, but real pie and mash eaters BE WARNED! it is not proper pie and mash if you ask me, the pies are crusty, the liquor dull, no chilli in the budget vinegar, mash in ice cream scoops. go to manze's in pekham (on corner by library) if you want to have pie and mash as it should be.4654 |

jamie Tuesday, November 02, 2004 | Rating: Good pies. I like the liquor as well though not as good as elsewhere. Particularly good if you are taking people who don't eat proper pies. They sell a whole range including vegetarian and steak & kidney. Worth going if only for the amusement of tourists (& west londoners) trying to work out what the hell liquor is. 2761 |
